Bar Rumba was for a while one of the essential destinations on the club circuit – with James Lavelle, Gilles Peterson and Ben Wilcox at That’s How It Is on Mondays; on Thursdays it was Movement, the drum n’ bass institution; Bobbi and Steve’s Garage City on Saturdays; and Bubblin’ Over on Sundays.
But since the irresistible rise of East London, things have been a bit quiet in Central London… until now, that is. Bar Rumba have just announced a whole new series of nights that should bring back a bit of class to West End proceedings. There’s Worldwide Underground on Mondays from the Brownswood crew (the bPm, Ross Allen and Beccy Grierson); on Thursdays things alternate between Movement, Sin City (dubstep nite with Hatcha, N-Type and Plastician) and Beyond, a funky nite with the Rinse FM / Deja Vu djs Geeneus, Marcus Nasty and Crazy Cousins. Also look out for On the Real (on a Saturday, once a month), promoted by the man like Spin Doctor. He recently brought Bobbito and Sadat X down, and there’s plenty more where that came from…
