For many the artwork which accompanies music releases is intrinsically linked with their appreciation, their sense of connection and as a way-marker directing the user to the pieces’ mood, themes or leanings. In an age where sampling, revistitation and new interpretations of what has gone before is prevalent across many artistic mediums with extremely mixed results; its always nice to stumble across something that invokes a considered, energized and pleasing sense of the “refix”.
Step up West coast beat maker / artist Teebs, who embarked on the Record Sleeves Series project after moving to his first apartment. Setting out with a studio of records gifted by friends, copped at Poo-Bah Records or just amassed through his own audio hunting; Teebs has administered his own artistic feelings to the canvasses with the aim of creating 100 unique sleeves. Which once the project is complete, will see the set photographed, duplicated and sold with each sleeve (also rammed full of goodness from My Hollow Drum, Brain Feeder and Dublab).
Check part 1 of these deep cover visions at the My Hollow Drum website and also watch for the new ‘Teebshigh EP’ featuring collaborative output with UK producer Jackhigh & Teebs.
