Heads High Live
Friday 3rd July @ Vibe Live
TAKE / Architeq / Heads High Soundsystem
(We got a pair of guestlists up for grabs so email us if ya interested. First come, first served.)
Heads High has fast evolved into a refreshing audio-visual experience, challenging divisions within the confines of performance and beyond. Each Heads High Soundsystem set blurs the line between live musicianship and the DJ’s mix, the parts melding with each other to create a smooth, integrated sensory experience. Their flagship Vibe Live sessions continue to build momentum, presenting blisteringly fresh music to a diverse and open-minded audience.
July’s session sees the vibe swing decidedly left of centre as Los Angeles based producer TAKE and Scotsman Architeq step to the Heads High stage.
TAKE (aka Sweatson Klank) continues to push the boundaries of off-kilter electronic beat music in new directions. Building on a multitude of successful EP and full-length releases, TAKE has unleashed a slew of new works, DJ mixes and remixes in 2009 and we’re not even half-way through the year yet! Co-founder of the legendary beat showcase night “Sketchbook”, he has been an influential figure in the LA beat scene since day one. 2009 is the year he steps out from the shadows, clutching fresh material for the All City, Poobah and Dublab labels and shiny new remixes for the likes of Warp’s Flying Lotus. His music is an epic journey, leading the listener down dust-covered roads of bit-crushed melodies and molested jazz samples – all hemmed in by walls of bass. Heads High are proud to play host to TAKE on the London leg of his extensive European tour.
Since signing to Sav Remzi’s Tirk label in 2007, Architeq’s deep space dub-hip hop explorations have been heating up dancefloors, radio playlists and i-pod headphones the world over. Working closely with live drummers and a die-hard analogue production ethic gives his music an organic vitality often missing from the productions of today’s laptop generation. With plaudits from everyone from Laurent Garnier to disco deviant Blackbelt Anderson and having attracted the attention of one Mary –Ann Hobbs (for whom he is putting the finishing touches to his forthcoming BreezeBlock mix) Architeq’s sound is diverse, deep and deliciously dubby.
Keeping the flow, residents and hosts the Heads High Soundsystem continue to blur the boundaries between live performance and the art of DJ. The eclecticism of their guests allowing them room to navigate through the full spectrum of their tastes. Founded and directed by Duke Etienne, the combination of Jamaican songstress and Lee Perry/Damien Marley collaborator Connie Bell, turntablist DJ Judge (Sensei FM) and musician/arranger Wayne Francis (United Vibrations) equates to a next-level journey into rhythm and rhyme.
