We’re back for our annual Carnival jam, and this year promises to be absolutely huge. We have teamed up with The Heatwave, London’s foremost exponents of Caribbean and UK carnival sounds, to bring the entire spectrum of Carnival sounds from Bashment and Soca to House and Garage under one roof for the carry on.
The past year has seen increasing musical connections between these apparently separate genres, with UK funky in particular linking Caribbean rhythms with UK and US dance music. Donaeo’s smash hit Party Hard is a vocal version of We Belong To The Night by Canadian deep house producer Suges. Veteran UK producers like Sticky, MJ Cole and DJ Zinc have all been working with bashment MCs this year, while house classics like Show Me Love by Robin S are getting rinsed again by UK funky DJs.
The sound of dancehall-influenced house music will dominate this year’s Notting Hill Carnival this year. To represent the true roots of this sound, Lostbahnhof and The Heatwave have teamed up for a carnival afterparty, kicking off at 7pm the moment the soundsystems close.
