Tamara Wellons is coming into town next week on 20 August for the second Out Of This World night. If you missed the first night, where Bopstar performed live with Zara McFarlane, you missed out. The venue was buzzing when Zara stepped up to the stage, supported by Baby Sol on BVs as well as live upright bass and drums from Richard Spaven. You aint never seen a house P.A. pulled off with such style and grace. ‘Captured’, ‘Desire’ and ‘Chiaroscuro’ got the live treatment, reworked for a joyful and musically-affirming one-off performance. On the decks for the rest of the night, Bopstar and Jose Carretas had the crowd in the palm of their hand…
So it’s with baited breath that we await the next session with Tamara Wellons all the way from the US, who’ll be supported by Kaidi Tatham on keys. Tamara’s the voice behind ‘Like Rain’, a gorgeous slice of soulful house, and ‘Out of this Word’ (which is where this new night got its name). Tamara has collaborated with the likes of Osunlade, Carlos Mena, Nomumbah and Jihad Muhammad. Here’s a little podcast/interview with Tamara to get you in the mood for the night.
