Labor Day weekend in the City means Caribbean sounds aplenty – on Sunday in Queens, enough reggae to sink Jamaica – Irie Jamboree features Sean Paul, Fyah Muma, Queen Ifrica, Freddy McGregor, Mr Vegas, Assassin, Laden, Spice and Chino and many more.

Labor Day Monday means West Indian Day Parade, the carnival will take over Eastern Parkway from Crown Heights to Grand Army Plaza and if you haven’t checked it before, think Notting Hill but with more skin and less house music.

One for the diary, September 19 is the finale of Afrokinetic at the Old American Can Factory in Gowanus, Brooklyn. Excellent venue deserves a good party, SHK will be there, come down and say hi.
