Thursday evenings at T Bar bring T:Bass, the weekly session again experiencing an Eglo invasion; with Floating Points, Alexander Nut and Werk Discs’ Actress, plus an impromptu cameo from Jackmaster.

As we danced on the lone corner patch of wooden floor, Floating Points (Sam) played a start-up set for two hours, switching quite early into hard, driving house. The scientician murdered it! Mixing a close-to-Trance thumper into So Solid’s ‘Dilema’, from a bassline ‘Shark Chase’ emerged. A heavier sound than previous Floating Points releases, the soon-to-come flip of ‘People’s Potential’ has earned its own skank. With dorsals raised the routine got its first formal run out. Super loud out the Funktion-Ones, earplugs were vital. Pre-midnight the venue was foolishly quiet, those there early witnessed an absolute belter, Sam making memorable selections and adding audio-enhancing EQing with the knobs his bespoke E&S rotary mixer.

Alex Nut exercised his bass weight for twenty minutes, Mala’s ‘In Luv’ leading into Actress. Enthused peeps stood up on the bleachers and the numbers increased. A Rick James’ ‘Super Freak’ remix impacted from head to toenails before Actress went from Daft Funk into an Acid stunner and song of the night: Unique 3 – ‘The Theme’ (Autechre Remix). Pushing the vibe, the gender ratio seemed to improve through the evening. Or did it? Too many men but a good vibe. Reecha was one attendee, love the Deadboy track in his mix for Decks and the City. Actress laid down the “La da dee La dee da’s” in Crystal Waters’s ‘Gypsy Woman’, then Dilla’s ‘Workinonit’, and after a remix of ‘Bonita Applebum’. It took the floor off piste! Capping a stellar set came Was (not Was)’s ‘Wheel Me Out’.

Heading to Houndsditch from Dalston Superstore specially for the event, Jackmaster made a beeline to the booth; RBMA team crew Max Cole and Todd L.Burns settled on the dancefloor. Outside in the smoking bay Sam told stories of his NY trip and cells dying in the lab. When back by the speakers, incense filled our nostrils as the unexpected guest came on. Jack’s name aptly matched the grooves he unleashed. Re-drop-ulous! The Glaswegian RBMA participant added 2-step amongst the mix, including the chewy bassline in ‘Bump n Grind’ by M-Dubs. Sam returned with a second blast of ‘Shark Chase’ and Marcellus Pittman’s ‘Erase The Pain’. Stepping out the of the booth, Actress allowed Jack, Sam and Alex to take turns until the close. All the DJs played noteworthy sets, a demonstration from some of  the UK’s top rave players.

Brilliant review!...
Version of S/D/Mofo was unhinged; definitely not ponderous. It was crazy, dirty, wrong...
Stunning photo, whoever took that must really know what they're doing. Oh, good tracks ...
