Twelve was the magic number on Thursday night when the RBMA unleashed yet more joy on the capital for its 12X12 event.

In a celebration of the UK’s very best producers, musicians and DJs – and to support the War Child charity – 12 acts were selected to play for 12 minutes to celebrate the 12’’ culture that’s helped define modern music.

Jazzie B showcased his distinctive street soul oeuvre, A Guy Called Gerald celebrated the magic of ‘Voodoo Ray’, MJ Cole rinsed ‘Sincere’ in different permutations for his 12 minutes, and Roni Size dug deep in the crates for his selection, ending with the anthemic ‘Brown Paper Bag’.

The party was ratcheted up yet another notch when Shy FX and Stamina MC, and Zinc and Dynamite MC took to the stage. Zinc brought on Ms Dynamite to do ‘Wile Out’, taking his set into the 2010s. And to take the party back once again to the early days, Shades of Rhythm rolled out ‘Sweet Sensation’.

Ninja Tune’s Hextatic provided visuals for each performance, making the night extra special. It’s been a pleasure having the RBMA in London this year – the standard of events has been remarkable. Let’s hope it comes back soon.
