Familiar with the name Kelpe but never having checked his stuff properly, on the final day of Bloc Weekend I followed the masses into a random makeshift stage (a dome actually but let’s not split hairs) tucked away between the merchandise stand and the food-court.

What followed was a mind-bendingly awesome hour of original music – distorted and mixed live by one of the UK’s most original artists. Despite playing early on the final day, Kelpe packed the dome, and (along with Anti-Pop Consortium, Lindstrom, Dodger Man and Loops Haunt) stood out on a competitive Bloc Weekend bill, balancing musicality with a unique electronic style.

Catching up with Kelpe afterwards, he was kind of enough to sling over a recent mix he did in the build up to the festival. He’s also revamped his site, www.kelpe.co.uk where you can check out fresh material (new album Cambio Weschel out on DC Recordings), peep some live vids, download some freebies, and keep up to date with all things Kelpe.
