Somethings gone down at Phonica Records in recent months. Now more than ever they seem to be expanding their presence and fanning the flames of London’s underground scene. With the new Phonica White dropping (more on this another time), recent in-stores from Stones Throw family and experimental nights at Plastic People they’ve stretched out once more, adding another bow to their string and launching a new night at Corsica Studios.
In a backlash to overpriced poor-sound larger venues, London’s top DJs and punters are backing the smaller venues with renewed passion. Forget Kokos and Cargo. Venues as intimate as 3 Blind Mice (more on this in the coming weeks) are competing to see who’ll pull the most-buzzed nights of summer. With about a 500 capacity across two areas, Corsica Studios isn’t going too far over the top when it states itself as ‘an integral part of London’s art scene.’ A not-for-profit company with social and artistic aims, it’s housed some of the capitals finest events, parties and club nights and constantly represent the best in left-field and underground music and talent. And best of all it’s not being shut down, so there’s no mindless bandwagon for everyone to jump on or boring documentaries to watch.
Check out the first bit of the Phonica press release below. Since then it’s been confrimed that Space Dimension Controller will be debuting live on the night. If you head over to their store blog they’ve got tracks from the artists in question to get a taste of what you’ll hear on the night.
