FACT magazine recently ran this interesting article about Rush Hour’s plans for 2011 (it also recaps of some of their 2010 releases including Virgo’s eponymous classic that I need to get my hands on). I was especially interested in the Gene Hunt’s reel-to-reels – Hunt, you see, was Ron Hardy’s protege and received exclusive cuts from house legends such as Lil Louis, Larry Heard, Steve ‘Silk’ Hurley and Dion (who, better known as No I.D., would go on to be Kanye West’s mentor). They’re all due to be collected on Chicago Dance Tracks, released by Rush Hour in May on two 2x12s or one CD. Luckily for everyone, Rush Hour have uploaded snippets of all the tracks. The version of ‘Donnie’ is serious and even if some of the edits are a bit rough and ready, this is a great addition to the Ron Hardy Muzik Box mixes that I’ve got knocking round on a CD somewhere.
