Autumn is just around the corner, and more than a shitload is going down in Nueva York in October that’s worth shouting about. Here’s something to get you going / jealous depending on where you live…

First up, if you still haven’t seen Soul Power, there’s a chance to catch it as the opening film of the Congo In Harlem film series on October 1st. Full line-up here, it’s screening at the Maysles Institute newly opened cinema dedicated to documentary film at 127th and Lenox.

Friday October 2nd presents a logistical challenge – Friends We Love are curating First Friday at the Bronx Museum, with Moni on the decks and TK Wonder representing the next generation, should be sweet.

It’s gonna be over by 10pm, but getting to Brooklyn for Back In Da Days, keeping it strictly old-skool with Grandmaster Melle Mel and Grand Wizard Theodore, ain’t gonna be easy. It’s the third session of the series, and it’s happening at Sputnik.

If you just clicked that Sputnik link you’ll now know that Pharoahe Monch is playing the same venue on October 17th with an impressive selection of guests. Mmm, mmm.

If you’re wondering about that black and white pic, it’s none other than Vladimir Alexandrovitch Dukelsky, otherwise known as Vernon Duke, he’s the cat that actually wrote Autumn in New York, but it’s people like this that made it popular before Frank.
