If haven’t yet heard about Scientist’s remix album ‘Scientist Launches Dubstep Into Outer Space‘, released on Tectonic, get to know. As one of Jamaica’s finest dub engineers, he’s made heavyweight dub version of tracks by artists including Guido, Loefah, Mala and Shackleton.

Here’s a little sneak preview.

To celebrate the album’s release, Scientist is teaming up with the Red Bull Music Academy for a UK tour. It kicks off at London’s Fabric this Thursday with Pinch, Mala, Loefah and The Upsetters.

Bypass the Evening Standard and pick up a new free paper available in the London area. Published Mon – Fri plus a Saturday round-up PDF copies are readily available online.

Issue #1 contains an insight into the academy experience from Emma Warren, a spotlight on Southwark, and Jeff Mao on his seven years of RBMA involvement.

Call us old farts. Call us nostalgic. But we just loved those rides back from the record store with the latest copy of Straight No Chaser, Boy’s Own, Sniffin Glue, Jockey Slut or Faith in our hands. Obviously, who are we to compare ourselves… but, still, you might find a bit or two in there that will do for some solid toilet/coffeebreak/post-club-insomnia entertainment.

kidkanevil drops new album, Basho Basho

It’s less than a month until the musical mayhem that we call Red Bull Music Academy kicks off forkidkanevil and his 59 fellow participants. The 28-year-old beat head has been musically commuting between London, LA, Detroit, and the wonky wonderland that is Tokyorkshire: keeping himself busy with the release of his new album, Basho Basho, set to drop next Monday on First Word Records.

To get a taste of this special bashoment party, fellow RMBA class of ‘10 TOKiMONSTA, who reps the somewhat dreamier division of that classic Brainfeeder beats sound, has done her own treatment of the lead/leak single Megajoy.

The track is featured on a new mix that Mr Kanevil has put together in promotion of the album, and it’s now up for grabs on his Soundcloud. You can also preview the full LP here, or, if you’re in London, drop by at the official release party over at Market Place – where kidnanevil will rub shoulders with Mr Thing and another London 2010 participant, Hoya:Hoya’s Illum Sphere, amongst others.BONUS:
