Back in May, Jonny Trunk kindly invited us on to his Resonance FM show, OST. Our appearance coincided with SHOOK 008, the film + music issue, which features an article by Jonny on actors who release records. There’s a taster of his text here. At the radio studio in Borough, our host played some records related to his article (and some not). We clustered together our soundtracks and tried not to sound too silly.

The Scratch Orchestra – 40 years

Commemorating 40 years of The Scratch Orchestra, Resonance FM are broadcasting a weekend marathon of the collective’s recordings. It’s underway so get streaming/switching your analog dial to 104.4fm (London area), runs until midnight on Sunday May 3rd.

“The Scratch Orchestra remains one of the most enigmatic, undocumented and overlooked musical phenomena of the last half century. Free University of the Airwaves

Broadcast in August on the radio station like no other (Resonance FM), a series of lectures are available for all; to download and prompt discourse. In their words: “The Free University of the Airwaves, a “summer school on the radio”. Designed to appeal to the general (adult) listener, this series of lectures ranges restlessly across many subjects. The Free University allows listeners to dip into a vast range of material. The result is digressive but always stimulating and unusual.”

Topics are plentiful, including: Dr Roberta Mock on avant-garde performance; an introduction to Philosopy with AC Grayling; 35 minutes of discussion about the pertinence of George Orwell by Jean Seaton; Dr Mark Miodownik, from Kings College, offers insight which wannabee baristas should take note of in How To Make The Perfect Cup Of Coffee; Malcolm Miles, a Professor of Cultural Theory, examines the ideas of Frankfurt School philosopher Herbert Marcuse; and Peter Rea explores how images are read in Visual Literacy.
